The investigational cancer drug vandetanib (Zactima), which is under FDA review for approval to treat a rare, inoperable thyroid cancer, carries a "substantial" toxicity risk, FDA reviewers said.

An advisory committee will meet on Thursday to discuss whether the benefits of vandetanib -- a multitargeted kinase inhibitor -- outweigh the considerable side effects seen in patients taking the drug for unresectable locally advanced or metastatic medullary thyroid cancer.........click for more
