The State government has decided to launch works under the solid waste management in 659 panchayats across the State.

The panchayats will, accordingly, be allotted Rs. 10 lakh each, amounting to Rs. 65.9 crore, for taking up steps to effectively manage solid wastes in these villages under the Swachch Bharat Mission (Gramin) in the phase one. The allocation of funds follows an action plan submitted by the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department for sanction of Rs.111.9 crore covering one village in each mandal in the State.

The Panchayat Raj Department is presently following the dumping yards concept allowing excavation of pits for dumping the waste collected in the village.
