Sixty-four lakh saplings will be planted across the State within the next two months, said B.V. Ramanaa, State Environment Minister here on Friday.

Inaugurating a training programme on ‘Safety measures to be undertaken for cleaning septic tanks,' jointly organised by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Mr. Ramanaa said as part of an effort to mitigate pollution and to reduce the emissions, the Chief Minister announced the planting programme in the Assembly.

It would begin on Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's birthday on February 24 and would be completed within two months, he said.

Two lakh saplings each would be planted in the 30 districts of the State, while in the Thane-hit Villupuram and Cuddalore districts more than 2 lakh saplings would be planted. The total cost of the project would be Rs.29.4 crore, he said.......Read More
