CHENNAI: Although at the outset, most speakers at the conclave concurred that there should be no government interference in education, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Nirmala Sitharaman pointed out at the final session on day two that without government in education, it runs the risk of becoming commercial and also open to scammers. As for politics and whether it can be kept out of education, she said, “Politics is going to be there but it is important to ensure that it doesn’t encroach into academics and that monopolisation is avoided.”
