The State Cabinet on Wednesday decided to write off bank loans of 1,191 endosulfan victims and allocated Rs.10.9 crore for the purpose. With the decision, the State government has finally brought an end to a long-pending issue relating to the loans taken by the victims.
The government had announced a moratorium on repayment of loans taken by the victims, which had been extended several times. Several issues kept coming up one after the other, including scheduled banks’ reluctance to show leniency to the hapless victims. This has finally prompted the government to entirely write off the loans.
Cashew factories
The Cabinet allocated Rs.30 crore for reopening cashew factories. The amount will be released soon.
