2-day waste management event held in Anna Nagar


To educate students and public on solid waste management, SBIOA Educational Trust and Citizens Consumer Action Group organised ‘Kuppai Thiruvizha’ (garbage fest) on November 25 and 26 at SBOA School and Junior College, Anna Nagar.

The event encompassed an array of activities on the underlying themesof reduce, reuse, repair and recycle. It was organised with the aim of making students, teachers, and residents of Anna Nagar to discover eco-friendly alternativestoeveryday plasticssuch as edible and eco-friendly cutlery, cloth and jutebags, sustainable fashion and organic food. Students also demonstrated how to prepare manure from vegetable waste using khamba pots (stack composters). The event ended with a discussion between citizens and a panel of speakers on theimpactof poor solid waste management on public health, environment and working conditions.

The programme was inaugurated by D Thomas Franco Rajendra Dev, secretary and correspondent SBIOA Educational Trust and AIBOC and President EXNORA International. In his address, Thomas Franco said 80% to 90% of wastecan be reused and stressedon the need for a new sustainable waste management system.

Several competitions including collage, drawing, and caption writing were held on the solid waste management.
