Panel explores sustainable water usage


"Architects must be sensitised about the rising global water shortage and measures that can be incorporated during the time of construction," said Indukanth S Ragade, organic chemist and grey water recycling expert during a panel discussion at IIT, Madras on Friday.

 He was one of the speakers at the conclave that was conducted by IIT Madras as part of Saarang's social initiative 'Boondh' which revolves around water crisis and conservation.
 
Encouraging citizens to dig open wells in their houses or apartment complexes, Sekhar Raghavan, conservation expert and director of Chennai-based Rain Centre, stressed on how open wells are more sustainable sources of water as it drawing from the shallow aquifer rather than borewells that extract water from a deeper level. The panelists observed that political will, especially at the state level, played a crucial part in implementation of measures to conserve water.Read more
