U’khand plans in earnest for climate change


Two years after the devastating floods in Uttarakhand, with three months to go before the UN-led climate conference in Paris, a workshop on 'Stocktaking for Sub-National Adaptation Planning' was held on Wednesday at the Wildlife Institute of India.

The Uttarakhand Action Plan on Climate Change (UAPCC), submitted to the Union environment ministry, sets out ways to minimise the impact of climate change in the state. A process is currently underway to assess social and climatic vulnerability and map risks the state faces. This will serve as the basis for prioritising climate adaptation action. Wednesday's workshop was aimed at assessing Uttarakhand's current needs and capacities to manage climate change.
