Stipend likely for community college students


The Rotary Club of Madras East with the assistance of Chennai Corporation is planning to give stipend to all students selected for courses offered by the Bheemannapet Community College.

Speaking at a function organised to issue certificates to students on Thursday, chairman of the college Venkatakrishnan said the number of students joining such courses has been declining on account of lack of awareness of such courses. The stipend would help to attract students belonging to the weaker sections from various parts of the city.

Founder of Hot Breads M.Mahadevan handed over the certificates to students. The Bheemannapet Community College is one of the community colleges established by the Corporation in association with the Rotary Club of Madras East.

More than 500 students, who dropped out from schools, have been trained so far in the college.

Over 90 per cent of such students are now employed. The Winner's Bakery Training Institute functions on the same premises of the community college, which is owned by the Chennai Corporation........Read More
