After setting up the country's first earthquake warning system (EWS) at Dehradun and Pithoragarh, the Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre (DMMC) is all set to install similar systems at Chamoli and Uttarkashi as well. Both districts come under seismic zones IV and V, considered to be the most seismically active regions in Uttarakhand.
The system, manufactured by the Italian firm Space Dynamics, was installed at the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) in Dehradun in the first week of this month.
