Organic farming to be popularised

To create awareness about the benefits of organic farming among farmers, the Department of Agriculture has decided to take up organic farming in 100 hectares each in all the districts.

The department officials have roped in 21 non-government organisations (NGOs), which are involved in the promotion of organic farming and allied activities, to implement the project.

To identify the inputs required to take up organic farming in each district, NGOs have already conducted a baseline survey in each district. A three-year project on organic farming estimated to cost Rs. 7 crores will commence soon.

Representatives of NGOs have been imparted training on the implementation of the project and educated about their responsibilities. The Government would provide inputs and technical assistance to NGOs, the department sources told The Hindu.............Click for more
