India has weak implementation strategy


The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) shared findings of the research report titled ‘Making affordable housing work in India’ at a conference, featuring key Indian and international experts in affordable housing.

The research report was released by Kumari Selja, Union Minister for Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Minister of Tourism.

The housing shortage in India is enormous. 26 million homes are projected to be required by 2012 to meet existing housing need, and 99 per cent of these homes are needed by households in the economically weaker sector and lower income group (LIG). If the current increase in backlog of housing is maintained, a minimum of 30 million additional homes will be required by 20202. While some housing demand will be taken up within the existing housing stock, several millions of homes will need to be built across India to fulfil the vision of it becoming slum free..........Click for more
